OUVERTURE talk
A change of perspective.
Intercultural intelligence as a driver of performance.
Openness is the first step towards others, and the beginning of a new way of working together.
The reality
Side by side, without really meeting.
Teams are increasingly diverse: nationalities, languages, backgrounds, generations. But bringing different cultures together in one place isn't enough to make them work together.
Without active effort, diversity remains mere juxtaposition: people work side by side without really meeting. And our brains, which love shortcuts, fill the gaps with stereotypes and prejudice. These often unconscious biases creep into decisions, recruitment and everyday relationships. They hold back engagement, innovation and the ability to retain talent.
My approach
An invitation to see things differently.
Every great work begins with an overture: it sets out the themes, awakens the ear and makes you want to hear more.
OUVERTURE is not training; it is an invitation to see things differently. The talk doesn't offer a ready-made recipe; it provides keys to understanding, concepts and references to grasp what happens when cultures meet. It draws on lived experience of expatriation, teaching and human resources management.
A clear approach, free of taboos and jargon, that sparks reflection as much as reaction.
What the talk covers
- Speaking of culture in the plural: profession, company, generation, origin. Everyone carries several cultures and an identity in motion.
- Multicultural or intercultural: two words, two visions. Moving from passive coexistence to an active approach where everyone takes a step towards the other.
- Stereotypes and prejudice: understanding how they form, why no one escapes them, and their effects (decision bias, micro-aggressions, self-fulfilling prophecy).
- Diversity as a driver of performance: innovation, attractiveness, competitiveness and leadership.
- Intercultural skills: learning to step outside your own perspective and put yourself in someone else's shoes without giving up your own position. Changing through exchange.
How it works
- A lively talk, illustrated with concrete examples and stories from the field
- Live interactive polls to capture the audience's perceptions
- Time for discussion to share questions and experiences
- Food for thought and references to take the process further
